"Rebuild" (SATB A Cappella Choral Piece)

"Rebuild" (SATB A Cappella Choral Piece)

"Rebuild" is an SATB a cappella choral piece written in 2022 for the West Michigan Choral Lab's freedom themed concert. Music and lyrics are by Theresa Redmond, and the piece is about being more inclusive and empathetic of people, encouraging everyone to be kind and accepting of others as well as supporting a world where everyone can freely be themselves.

Full text:

"We are not perfect. As people we try to unearth it;

why it's so hard for the planet to be truly empathetic

and listen to every voice in the attic.

Perspective is tainted; nobody's life should be painted

or put in a box that screams 'this is what normal means,'

when normal itself is stuck on a shelf.

Rebuild the world so all voices can be voiced,

so all lungs can finally breathe in the same air.

Rebuild the sky so what's normal doesn't lie,

so all hearts feel fully free and can be themselves.

The atmosphere's open; unwritten skies to be broken.

And nothing should hold anyone back from

the fresh air that lets them rise to where freedom can lead us.

Rebuild the world so all voices can be voiced,

so all lungs can finally breathe in the same air.

Rebuild the sky so what's normal doesn't lie,

so all hearts feel fully free and can be themselves."
